Quick Answer

For Diwali sweets and gifts, Zepto is the cheapest on small orders, Blinkit has the biggest dark-store network and Swiggy Instamart covers the most cities. Whichever you pick, order by Friday, 6 November and check the packing and use-by dates before you pay.

  • An ₹84 item costs ₹115.50 on Zepto, ₹143 on Blinkit and ₹154 on Instamart after fees.
  • Besan ladoo and chikki last about 30 days. Kaju katli lasts about 7 days, and milk sweets only 2-4.
  • Diwali is Sunday, 8 November, and Zepto’s busiest day last year was the day before.

Quick-commerce apps have become the place Indians go when they forget something, and Diwali is when that happens most. Zepto crossed 2 million daily orders in Diwali week 2025, and Blinkit handled about 30 lakh. This guide compares Blinkit vs Zepto vs Swiggy Instamart for Diwali sweets and gifts on what matters to a shopper: fees, coverage, freshness and timing.

How Do Blinkit, Zepto and Instamart Compare for Diwali?

Short answer: Zepto is cheapest on small orders, Blinkit has the most dark stores, and Instamart is in the most cities. On an ₹84 order, total cost was ₹115.50 on Zepto, ₹143 on Blinkit and ₹154 on Instamart in a November 2026 comparison.

Blinkit Zepto Swiggy Instamart

Fees come from BW Retail World and Storyboard18, dark-store counts from Ordrio, and order volumes from Lyxel&Flamingo. Fees change by city and time of day. For a wider fee comparison, see our Ownly vs Zomato vs Swiggy guide (Hyderabad prices).

Which App Should You Pick for Diwali Sweets and Gifts?

  • Small last-minute orders: Zepto. Free delivery starts at ₹99 and it has no handling or small-cart fee, so a single box of mithai or a pack of diyas costs the least.
  • Finding a specific brand or gift in a big city: Blinkit. It has the largest dark-store network, which should mean more stock choices near you, although stock still differs by street.
  • Smaller cities and wider coverage: Instamart. It operates in 131 cities and its festive sale has been running since 8 October.
  • Best deal overall: open all three. The same box can differ in price and availability, and a dark store that is out of stock simply does not show the item.

Gifting beyond sweets? Instamart reported over 400% growth in gold and silver coin orders on Dhanteras 2025, so festive gifts on these apps now go well beyond mithai. Pistachios and dates have doubled in Mumbai wholesale price this year, so dry fruit hampers cost more than last Diwali.

Are Diwali Sweets From Quick-Commerce Apps Fresh?

Short answer: It depends on the sweet. Besan ladoo, chikki and gajak last about 30 days and kaju katli about 7, but kalakand lasts a day and rasgulla and sandesh about 2. Blinkit’s seller guide says stock takes 2-3 days to move to its dark stores, so check the dates on the pack.

Sweet Rough shelf life (loose, FSSAI guidance)
Kalakand Same day
Rasgulla, sandesh About 2 days in the fridge
Peda, burfi, milk cake About 4 days
Kaju katli, ghevar, dry fruit sweets About 7 days
Besan ladoo, gajak, chikki About 30 days

These ranges come from FSSAI’s guidance note on milk products as summarised by UGLY Creatives. FSSAI also advises that online food should reach you with 30% of its shelf life or 45 days left, but it does not explain how that applies to a week-long sweet.

What to check on the box

  • The packing date and a use-by date, not only a best-before date.
  • The green veg mark and an allergen line such as “Contains milk and nut”.
  • On a gift box with several sweets, the shortest shelf life should be printed.
  • No staple pins or wires closing the box. FSSAI’s advisory names sweet boxes from June 2026.

FSSAI also asked states on 29 September to inspect and sample sweets through Navratri and Diwali, and on 24 October Uttar Pradesh suspended four dark-store and warehouse licences. Both are reasons to check labels. For short-life milk sweets, buy from a shop near you instead. See our guides for Bangalore and Mumbai.

What Does a Diwali Box Really Cost After Fees?

Compare the true cost, not the sticker price: (item price + delivery + handling + small-cart fee + 18% GST on fees) divided by the grams, then multiply by 100. An ₹84 item costs 38% more on Zepto, 70% more on Blinkit and 83% more on Instamart once fees apply, but on a ₹600 box that clears the free-delivery limit, fees matter far less than the price per 100 g.

Prices per 100 g vary widely: Zoutons found Amazon Diwali mithai from ₹18.80 to ₹337.50 per 100 g on 26 October. A 250 g box at ₹499 is about ₹200 per 100 g. For benchmark kaju katli prices, see our Indian sweets for Diwali guide.

When Should You Order Diwali Sweets and Gifts?

Short answer: Order by Dhanteras on Friday, 6 November, and avoid 7 November, the day before Diwali. Zepto’s busiest day last year was the day before Diwali, with 2.37 million orders. For Bhai Dooj on 11 November, order on 9 or 10 November.

Date What to order
Now to 5 November Dry fruit hampers, gift boxes, diyas and long-life sweets
Friday, 6 November (Dhanteras) Gold and silver coins, utensils and sweets for puja
7 November Avoid peak traffic, or buy fresh milk sweets from a nearby shop
Sunday, 8 November (Diwali) Last-minute flowers, diyas and snacks
9-10 November Bhai Dooj gift boxes for 11 November

If an app shows sold out, make the sweet yourself: our Diwali sweets recipes include besan ladoo, which keeps up to 10 days.

FAQs

Which is best for Diwali sweets: Blinkit, Zepto or Swiggy Instamart?

Zepto has the lowest fees on small orders, Blinkit has the most dark stores, and Instamart covers the most cities. For sweets, the best app is the one that shows a packing date and use-by date for the exact box you want in your pincode.

Are Diwali sweets on quick-commerce apps fresh?

It depends on the sweet. FSSAI’s guidance gives loose sweets about a week for kaju katli and 30 days for besan ladoo, chikki and gajak, but only 2-4 days for rasgulla, peda and burfi. Blinkit’s seller guide says stock spends 2-3 days moving from its warehouse to dark stores, so check the dates on the pack.

What are the delivery charges on Blinkit, Zepto and Instamart?

On a small order, a November 2026 report puts total fees at about ₹54 on Blinkit, ₹65 on Instamart and ₹30 on Zepto, which has dropped handling fees and offers free delivery above ₹99. Fees vary by city, cart value and time.

When should I order Diwali sweets and gifts online?

Order by Dhanteras on Friday, 6 November. Zepto’s busiest day last year was the day before Diwali, with 2.37 million orders, so avoid ordering on 7 November. For Bhai Dooj on Wednesday, 11 November, order on 9 or 10 November.

Which Diwali sweets should I not order on a quick-commerce app?

Short-life milk sweets such as kalakand, rasgulla, sandesh and peda are best bought from a nearby shop on the day. FSSAI’s guidance lists kalakand as same day and rasgulla and sandesh as about 2 days in the fridge.

What should I check on a sweet box label?

Look for the packing date, a use-by date, the green veg mark and an allergen line such as Contains milk and nut. A gift box with several sweets should carry the shortest shelf life among them.

Swiggy Instamart’s Quick India Movement sale went live on 8 October 2026 with no end date announced, and Blinkit ran a Grand Diwali Sale last year. Check each app’s Diwali store before you order, since offers change daily.
